WHO ARE THE BUCCANEERS?
The Bristol Buccaneers Squash Super League team has been formed to celebrate the rich history of world-class squash in the city of Bristol. In partnership with UWE’s squash program and Elitesquash, we’ve built the squad around UWE Alumni (including Mohamed El Shorbagy, Eain Yow, and Yousef Soliman, along with our legends), current UWE athletes (all under 25), and players with a special connection to the city (like Joelle and Tesni).

ABOUT THE BUCCANEERS
Our goal is to bring live, world-class squash to both the city and our home base at Workout Harbourside, featuring players our squash community already knows and loves.
Workout Harbourside, once known as Welshback Squash Club, has a proud history of hosting great players on its iconic show court. UWE and Elitesquash have long been part of the former professional league PSL, with many all-time greats gracing our courts. Now, with the launch of the new SSL league, we’re introducing a fresh face—the Bristol Buccaneers! Our beautiful club, nestled along the river in the historic port city of Bristol, will be ready to snatch victory from our opponents.
The squash program at UWE Bristol presents an exceptional sporting experience specifically crafted for student-athletes who have the ambition to excel in their sport. This program places a significant emphasis on nurturing a culture of performance, ensuring that both athletic accomplishments and academic success are prioritized equally. Through UWE's squash initiative, players are provided with a comprehensive array of resources and support designed to enhance their skills and abilities, ultimately equipping them for the competitive challenges they will face on the PSA world tour.
Elitesquash coach John Welton is a strong advocate for the holistic development of athletes. He believes in the importance of integrating both on-court and off-court experiences, allowing each athlete to fully realize their potential and achieve their goals in the sport.
World no.1 Mohamed El Shorbagy studied on the UWE Bristol Performance Sport programme and 16 PSA professionals are on the UWE Performance Sport programme as of 2024 with 20 British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) titles in the last ten years.
